FAQ

Common questions

Do I need SIRIM Type Approval to sell my product in Malaysia?

If your product transmits or receives radio signals — phones, WiFi routers, Bluetooth devices, IoT — then yes. SIRIM Type Approval (regulated by MCMC) is mandatory before communications and multimedia equipment can be sold or used in Malaysia.

What is ST CoA, and which products need it?

ST CoA is the Certificate of Approval from Suruhanjaya Tenaga (the Energy Commission) for electrical-equipment safety. It is required for 34 categories of regulated electrical equipment — air-conditioners, refrigerators, televisions, LED lighting and more — before they can be manufactured, imported, or sold.

How long does SIRIM Type Approval take?

Standard applications typically take about 2–4 weeks from submission, and Special Approval (for exhibitions, trials, or training) about 14 working days, depending on the product and documentation.

Can a foreign company apply, or do I need a Malaysian company?

Malaysian regulators require a locally registered company to hold the application. MY Broadband Corporation can act as your local applicant, so overseas manufacturers and brand owners can get approved without setting up a Malaysian entity.

What documents do you need to start?

Typically your product specifications and datasheets, plus an accredited test report (ISO/IEC 17025). For SIRIM, RF test reports must be less than 5 years old. We confirm the exact list once we know your product.

Do you handle labelling too?

Yes. Approved communications products carry the MCMC label, and approved electrical products carry the ST-SIRIM and Energy-Efficiency labels — we handle the labelling requirements end to end.
